Young person

Advice for parents of year 11 students

In their final school year, your teenager will have an important decision to make. What and how they choose to study in post-16 education can have a big impact on their future. Careers advice and guidance is crucial, it can help a young person to make the right choices, whilst taking away some of the stress at the same time.

How do we help your teenager?

We help in a variety of ways:

  • Group sessions during which your son/daughter will be given information about the different post-16 options: education, employment and training.
  • Students can also request to see the Connexions Personal Adviser in a one-to-one interview.  If your son/daughter wants you to be there then you will be made most welcome.
  • Our PAs will also make sure your son/daughter is told about the Government's September Guarantee, which aims to ensure that all school leavers have an 'offer' of education or training before they leave compulsory education.
  • Our PAs will also be available for you to speak to at Parents' evenings.
  • We have a list of useful websites for Year 11s which you can download here Useful Websites for Year 11
  • Download a copy of our Year 10/11 Parent Power booklet.  This outlines what careers education your son's/daughter's should be participating in in school.

Sixth Form and College Open Evenings

Every year local colleges and sixth forms throw open their doors to give you and your son/daughter the opportunity of having a good look around and to find out what they have to offer.
