One of the biggest decisions your teenager will face this year is choosing the subjects they want to study in Years 10/11. Below is a list of resources that you and your son or daughter can use to help make those choices.
Schools produce their own option booklets which will give you and your son/daughter plenty of information about their subject choices.
If your son/daughter is confused, anxious or unsure about their subject choices, they can speak to the Connexions Personal Adviser about it (PAs in Bolton's secondary schools are impartial career guidance specialists). There will be a Connexions room in your son's/daughter's school where the Connexions PA will be available to speak to your teenager in confidence.
Now is a good time for you and your son/daughter to explore a range of different occupations and learning options. If you want to know more about the different qualifications on offer there is a parents/carers supplement in the national Year 9 booklet Which Way Now?
The Jobs4u online database of careers information - www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u - is useful for finding out what subjects and qualifications are needed for hundreds of different jobs.
www.mycoursemyfuture.com/bolton is the online learning prospectus for 14-19 year olds in Bolton. (Pre-16 information is currently being developed.)
If you would like to know more about the careers education your son/daughter should be participating in in school download a copy of Parent Power Yrs 7-9.
