Application Form

application Forms

Most of the time the first step in getting that job you’re after involves filling in an application form.

There are some simple things to remember to make sure yours is the one that stands out:

Useful points to remember when filling in an application form

  • Photocopy the form to practice on as it’s better to make mistakes on this than the original.
  • Put aside several hours in order to do the form - and yourself – justice.
  • Read through the instructions carefully before starting – do they ask you to use black ink, for example?
  • If you have been sent a person specification read through this carefully too. If particular skills or qualifications have been asked for, tailor your answers to match these and show how you meet them. If you don’t do this you may not even get an interview. If there is no person specification, use the job advert in a similar way.
  • Don’t name referees without asking their permission first.
  • Don’t use friends or relatives as referees - if you’re not sure who to use, you could always ask your Connexions Personal Adviser.
  • Keep a photocopy of your completed form so that if you get an interview you can refer to it to practice what to say.

If you want help filling in an application form then simply ask your Personal Adviser, who’ll be more than happy to go through it with you.
