careers Advice

There’s no doubt about it – deciding what you want to do for a living is a huge decision and can be a hard one to make.

With the range of careers out there it can be mind boggling, but with the advice contained in this section and the help of your Personal Adviser, you can make sure that you end up where you want to be.

So, what are you good at?

The best place to start is to have a think about what you are good at – these are your strengths that you can use to sell yourself to employers.

You also need to think about what you’re not so good at – your weaknesses – so that you can be realistic about what you can and can’t apply for.

There are a number of general skills and personal qualities that employers look for, so have a look and see how many you have.

Remember that you can always develop those skills you haven’t yet got through experience, such as voluntary work, and training. Your Personal Adviser can tell you more about this.

Once you have identified your skills, use these in application forms, CVs and interviews to sell yourself.
